Where will employers be looking for people, and where do jobseekers outnumber job offers? Barometr Zawodów answers that every year. It is a forecast prepared by experts in every county (powiat) in Poland. The data is public, but it is scattered across tables, posters and files for individual voivodeships (regions).
At MySkillsSpace, we have brought it together in the Occupation Demand Map. One map shows the forecasts for every county and voivodeship, by occupation group and year, covering the editions from 2016 to 2026.
What Barometr Zawodów is
Barometr Zawodów is prepared by the Voivodeship Labour Office in Kraków, commissioned by the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy. Every year, expert panels in the counties assess around 170 occupation groups. The panels include representatives of labour offices, employers and schools, among others.
Each occupation is placed in one of these categories: large shortage, shortage, balance, surplus or large surplus. At county level, the experts also assess whether demand for the occupation will increase, decrease or remain stable.
What you can look up
- An occupation in a specific place: pick an occupation group and see straight away in which counties a shortage is forecast and in which a surplus.
- Shortage and surplus, or change in demand: two ways of reading the same edition. Barometr gives the change in demand for counties only, so this view always shows counties.
- Region details: the breakdown of forecasts and the list of occupations in shortage, split into large shortage and shortage. For a selected occupation, you also see the main reason for the shortage and the experts' comments, in Polish, where they have been published.
- Trends: how the forecasts for a region changed from one edition to the next, including the share of forecasts of rising and falling demand.
- Stability of the forecast: a grid of counties and years for the selected occupation. A row in a single colour means the same assessment for the whole period.
- Comparator: up to three regions, occupations or years side by side.
- Rankings: occupations with the most counties in shortage, industries, and the biggest changes since the previous edition.
Filters apply as soon as you select them and are saved in the page address, so you can share a result with a single link. The map also works from the keyboard: use the arrow keys to move between regions and Enter to select one.
Connected to the rest of MySkillsSpace
From a region and an occupation, you can go on to the Salary Map and the Salary History Analysis, to the specialist search and to related offers. Once you are signed in, you can watch the selected occupation and region.
Barometr's occupation groups do not line up with the groups in the wage survey run by GUS, Statistics Poland. That is why we open salaries for a specific occupation group only when we have confirmed its equivalent. Otherwise, you see salaries for the region as a whole.
If you have a Specialist Profile, the map suggests occupations that match its headline and skills. The matching happens only in your browser.
How to read changes between years
Barometr's list grew from 134 occupation groups in 2016 to 168 in 2026. So the number of occupations in shortage can also rise because more occupations are being assessed. We show the change from the previous year only when both editions cover the same occupations, and long-term trends are best read as shares rather than counts.
We import each edition from the official files published on barometrzawodow.pl. A new edition does not replace the published one until its data has been checked. Occupation names stay in Polish, as Barometr publishes them, and we always cite the source next to the map.
